Organically from the activities of the emerging FinTech Sector, Paytechs began to establish roots in Canada over the course of the last 5 years and showcased their innovative payments and payment-related products and services, as seen in many other jurisdictions around the globe. After several years in operation, Canadian PayTechs have enjoyed only limited success and continue to pursue access to, and active participation in, Canada's national payments system. As a greater number of countries provide accommodations for the new market participants, Canada has been slower to react. In terms of the future of PayTechs in Canada, what opportunities currently exist or are likely to emerge to support this nascent industry. What is or what could the current government do to better support the financial services sector, without inviting significant new risks into the payments ecosystem?
